September 1987: David Winstanley began his indentured apprenticeship as a plaster in September 1987. He worked at Thomas Winstanley's in Rainford, and trained at Riversdale College. David worked on many types of buildings from offices, hospitals, schools, shops and domestics dwellings.
June 1993: In 1993, Thomas Winstanley was going through a major staff turnover and David's role expanded in to other types of building work within the company. David was given a number of other responsibilities including groundwork, brickwork and carpentry.
September 1994: In this period David Winstanley's career was moving fast, as his responsibility grew. He was appointed as a foreman running a number of building sites for Thomas Winstanley, and supervising a number of trades including electrical work, and plumbing. He was running jobs values between £25,000 to £500,000. He was also responsible for a number of staff which typically numbered 10 or more.
September 1995: David Winstanley created a company in order to optimise personal income. This was also an important episode in front-line customer care. It became quickly apparent that the best mechanism of creating business was by recommendation and also that the easiest way of generating further revenue was by repeat business. Therefore, David Winstanley is committed to customer satisfaction through safe, professional and cost effective work.
During this period 60% of the work was for commercial premises and 40% for domestic. David Winstanley managed many types of projects as a craftsman and foreman. David Winstanley understands the technical requirements of the building process from groundwork, brickwork, carpentry to kitchen fitting and decoration. He also understands the management of professional tradesmen, planners, and architects; he is able to communicate on their level in order to get the job completed efficiently.
Also, one needs to be able to optimise the cost of materials, and having important vendor relationships means that the cost of jobs can be minimised. Maintaining cash-flow through prompt invoicing of customers and payments to vendors means that business can be executed quickly, cost-effectively, allowing bigger discounting and less overheads. Finally and most importantly, David Winstanley understands the client and the importance quality work is to customer satisfaction.
January 2010: David Winstanley is heading in to a new phase, increasing the amount of domestic work in order the expand his successful business formula. He welcomes expanding his books and creating friends with a whole new set of clients.
